The Sustainable Development Goals
What part can Handelsbanken play?
Goal 5: Gender equality
Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth
Roughly half of the world’s population lives under the international poverty threshold and having a job does not guarantee the ability to escape from poverty in many places. Through dialogue we can influence companies to work towards the fulfilment of goal 8, decent work and economic growth.
Goal 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure
Investments in sustainable industries and environmental innovations are crucial in order to create opportunities for a better future. As a bank in the local community we strive towards ensuring long-term economic growth in all of our operations.
Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities
Rapid urbanisation and expanding cities is putting unsustainable pressure on infrastructure. This could lead to economic growth, but can also have negative effects on social divides and our ecosystem. With significant lending to the property sector, we have particular responsibility in terms of sustainable cities.
Goal 13: Climate action
The effects of definitive climate changes to our planet are already showing. As a bank we finance climate smart innovations and sustainable investments in order to reduce our indirect impact on the climate.
Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions
A peaceful society is a stable foundation for sustainable development. We aim to reduce illicit financial flows and significantly reduce all forms of corruption and bribery in the Bank's sphere of operations.
